Learning from others' experiences is basically a superpower.
In 2015 I attended an event, Brian Tracy's "2 Day MBA". What a brilliant course.
But there was one very particular stand-out piece of advice that has stuck with me more than anything else:
You don't know what you don't know.
I love this - it opens up your mind to realize there's so much more you don't know that you don't even realize you don't know.
I've learned a lot
In the past decade, I've run my own software development agency and more recently joined REAL Success Network as COO. I've learned so much over this time about running a business and what it takes to be successful.
But that just scratches the surface.
There's so much more
I've recently joined a membership for COO's and in just 3 days I've learned a lot more about scaling up businesses, and some of the things its going to take for us to build my current business venture to reach the 10 year targets we've put in place.
It's fascinating stuff, and there's always more to learn.
Stay humble
One of the core philosophies that I love is the approach of committing to always be "the humble student".
At REAL Success Network, we have built a business around the idea of continuous educational self-improvement. It's an area I'm passionate about, and it's something I think every entrepreneur needs to embrace in order to be successful in any venture.
But this only works if you keep the mindset of being a humble student. Never think you know everything, and always believe that you can learn something from everyone.
Everyone has had their own unique life experience, and this combined with the skill and knowledge they've developed gives them a unique perspective. And so I really do believe that if you understand this, you can learn something from everyone.
Set any ego aside and be open to learning. It will change your life in ways you can't even imagine.
Get a mentor and/or coach
A final note on how to learn and grow at a rapid pace - learn from someone who's done it before. There are so many things many of us want to accomplish in life that someone somewhere has done before.
Think of the example of a personal trainer at the gym - it's very common practice to work with a personal trainer if you want to get into shape.
Apply the same to your business and/or career.
Get a professional coach and find some mentors who can help you learn what you need to and achieve success and a much faster pace. Seek out the experts and learn from them. You'll get results so much faster.
Professional coaches and mentors can cost a lot of money, but if you're working with them to grow your career or business, this approach would often pay for their costs many times over in a short period of time.
In summary...
Keep feeding your head. Learn as much as you can and develop your skills and knowledge continuously. This will help massively improve your business and career so fast its crazy.
